Senators Flake and Heinrich Discuss 'Rival Survival' at Washington, D.C. Event on Thursday
On Thursday, Sept. 18 at 8:30am at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., both Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ) and Senator Martin Heinrich (D-NM) will publicly discuss for the very first time their upcoming Discovery Channel special, Rival Survival, a television event in which they allowed Discovery Channel to maroon them on an uninhabited island in August, which forced them to put their differences aside to survive for one week far from civilization and their daily lives and duties as U.S. senators.
Never before seen clips from Rival Survival, which premieres on Discovery Channel Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 10PM ET/PT, will also be screened on Thursday morning.
Through their hard work and attempts to compromise and come together, Rival Survival put Sen. Heinrich and Sen Flake in the unique position to demonstrate to their colleagues in the U.S. Congress, and the world, that rivals, even from opposing political parties, can try put aside their differences with the goal to not only survive, but thrive.
Sen. Flake, a true conservative Republican, served in the U.S. House of Representatives for six consecutive terms from 2001-2013 prior to his election to the U.S. Senate. Sen. Flake is a self-described reformer who attacks government spending and is vocal on hot-button issues like immigration reform. Last year, Sen. Flake and Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) were part of the "Gang of 8″ who teamed up to try to change immigration policies in the U.S. Sen. Heinrich, a member of the Senate's Energy and Natural Resources Committee, is a self-described conservationist and a strong progressive voice from New Mexico on issues that include education, health care and social security.
