• One order every second predicted during peak shopping time
  • 1.6 million visitors expected to the website
  • Nearly three times more Black Friday deals than 2013 - including £30 off all Apple iPads and £80 off Apple MacBooks and iMacs
  • Huge saving of £400 on a Samsung 55" LED TV

28 November 2014: Currys PC World is stocked up for what it expects to be its second biggest trading day of the year today, Black Friday. Currys PC World anticipates one online order every second during its busiest trading period on Black Friday. As shoppers seek to benefit from huge deals - 177% more than last Black Friday - across multiple categories of technology and major brands, the business expects 1.6 million visitors to the site - an uplift of 25% compared with the same time last year and double those reported in 2012.

With nearly three times as many deals as the last Black Friday period - (a series of 'Black Tag' deals were actually introduced yesterday and will run through the weekend and into next week) - Currys PC World will open the doors of its stores from 8am this Friday and has taken on more seasonal colleagues to help customers find the right technology solutions.

Customers can expect to see specially slashed Black Friday prices today on a variety of electrical goods - TVs and laptops through to coffee machines, washing machines and wireless speakers - as they search for the latest tech and gadgets for Christmas gifts and treats for themselves. Save £100 on the Asus X550CA 15.6" (Intel i5) laptop, down to £299.99 from £399.99 (its lowest ever price) and save £400 on the Samsung UE55H6400 Smart 3D 55" LED TV now £699 down from £1099. Apple product lovers can take full advantage of a whopping £30 off all iPads - making an iPad mini £169 - and £80 off all MacBooks and iMacs. 10% will be knocked off all printers and ink.

For Brits looking to upgrade appliances in their homes there are also amazing Black Friday deals on selected products including the Hotpoint HTB721P large load washing machine down to an amazing £199, its lowest price ever and representing a massive saving of £100; not to mention 10% off all black large kitchen appliances. The Delonghi EC152 Pump Espresso Coffee Maker is down to an incredible £29.99 from £99.99.

There are further deals in Currys PC World's Black Tag event, which runs alongside those Black Friday-only offers but then extends into the weekend and next week. Ending Wednesday 3 December, Black Tag deals are available in-store and online across a wide selection of gadgets, including the wearable Jawbone UP (down from £80 to £39). Wearable tech is expected to be a hot-favourite this year as Brits seek to keep fit. It's no wonder sales have risen 291% year on year, the tech suitable for a host of needs from basic activity monitoring to in-depth analysis of sleep patterns, heart rate and calories burnt.

Juicers and blenders have soared in popularity as items such as the NutriBullet and Philips Avance pose an attractive choice for anyone looking to tighten up their healthy lifestyles - juicer sales have grown 26% year-on-year. The Nutri Ninja is now down to £79.99 making a saving of £20. Small kitchen appliances such as stand mixers also continue to be a popular choice, with the Kenwood MX313 Patissier Food Mixer down to £119 making a huge saving of £130.

Other hot Black Tag deals include Beats Wireless Bluetooth headphones, now half price at £124 and a Beko WM74155LW washing machine which at £179 makes you a saving of £170. Anyone looking for a new laptop case or iPad cover will also enjoy 25% off all accessories.

e-Commerce Director at Currys PC World, Jeremy Fennell, comments: "Our Black Friday and Black Tag events mark the start of the biggest trading period both in-store and online going all the way through to Christmas and the New Year.  This year, we expect Black Friday to see the biggest growth increase of any trading day of the year and to be even bigger, in terms of online orders, than Christmas Day in 2013."

Currys PC World's Newark distribution centre expects this to be the biggest Black Friday to date, predicting the following:

  • More than half of the visits to Currys PC World's websites on Black Friday are expected to come from mobile devices, equating to 40% year-on-year growth in mobile and tablet traffic.
  • Currys PC World has enough stock to fill 64 Olympic size swimming pools.
  • If all the Large Screen TVs expected to be sold by Currys PC World throughout Black Friday were stacked on top of each other they would reach over 30 times the height of the Eiffel tower.
  • The Newark distribution centre spans 1.5million square feet, equivalent to the size of 65 football pitches.
  • Currys PC World expects to sell one wearable every minute during Black Friday.
  • 72,000 Christmas cupcakes could be made from the expected sales of stand mixers over the Black Friday period.
  • Coffee machines forecast to be sold over the Black Friday period, would pile up and down the London Shard a whopping 14 times.
