DIXY GROUP SUMS UP RESULTS OF PRODUCTS FOR HELP ACTION

HELD IN MOSCOW, KALUGA, AND TULA

Moscow, Russian Federation, May 24, 2018

Approximately a ton of food products has been obtained in May from the kind boxes installed in Dixy retail chain stores in Kaluga, the Kaluga Region, and Tula. Set up of kind boxes is a new format of the joint DIXY Group and Rus Food Bank charity project called Products for Help.

In May, stationary boxes, where customers can leave their product donations for the cash-strapped at any time they please, were installed in 10 stores of Dixy retail chain in Kaluga, the Kaluga Region, and Tula. Volunteers of Rus Food Bank were on duty in those stores on May 17 and 18. They informed customers on the opportunity to make charity purchases in favour of the people in need, and helped them to place their donations in the kind boxes.

During the action, 336 kg of food products were collected in Tula, which enabled 42 families to obtain food handouts. Within the same period, 192 kg of food products were collected in Kaluga and the Kaluga Region. This made it possible to make charity sets and to send them to 29 families.

In the same timeframe, the action Products for Help was held on a regular basis in Moscow and the Moscow Region. Volunteers of Rus Food Bank were on duty in 10 stores where the action took place. They informed the customers willing to take part in the action on the rules and terms of participation, and offered everyone interested to make food donations in favour of those in need. The action made it feasible to collect almost 2300 kg of food products, among which, over 950 kg in Moscow, almost 200 kg in Lobnya, and more than 1000 kg in Serpukhov. Those products were used to fill up 366 charity sets for 271 families.

The list of recipients of product donations includes such social categories as large families, lone-parent families, children, and disabled people. The most popular products purchased for food donations are grains, pasta, confectioneries, canned food, vegetable oil, tea, and coffee.

The foundation was established in 2012. It has handed out more than 15 million kilograms of products to the cash-strapped.

Rus Food Bank accepts product donations (food products and vital goods) from Russian manufacturers, cafes, restaurants, stores, as well as product sets from the public within the Basket of Kindness and Products for Province projects along with monetary donations from the public for purchase of products within all-Russia Folk Dinner voluntary project. Aid distribution is organized by the foundation through social services, parishes of the Russian Orthodox Church, and private non-commercial organizations all over Russia.
