Washington, D.C. - March 12, 2015

The Dow Chemical Company applauds Senators Tom Udall (D-NM) and David Vitter (R-LA) for introducing the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act. This vital piece of legislation will update the Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA), the nation's primary law regulating chemicals in commerce, for the first time since it was enacted in 1976.

"This legislation will create a modern federal chemical management system that will give consumers, manufacturers, retailers, regulators and public health officials confidence in the innovative products and materials made possible by today's advanced chemistry," said Andrew N. Liveris, Dow's chairman and chief executive officer. "We congratulate Senators Udall and Vitter on their bipartisan efforts and appreciate the support of Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) in bringing this overdue reform before the U.S. Senate."

Dow believes in a predictable, risk-based chemical management system that restores consumer confidence, and reestablishes a predictable, common sense framework for determining and establishing product safety. As the largest chemical manufacturer in the U.S., Dow strongly believes that this legislation will allow the U.S. to continue to be a global leader in manufacturing and innovation. Dow encourages the Committee on Environment and Public Works to move this legislation forward for a timely and full Senate passage.
