Dow Building and Construction, a business group of The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW), was honored at the 2016 Edison Awards in the Energy and Sustainability category with a gold for their LIQUIDARMOR™ CM Flashing and Sealant.

“Innovation is the lifeblood of our company and a vital pillar in our growth strategy,” said A.N. Sreeram, senior vice president and chief technology officer for Dow. “This Edison Award is evidence that our world-class team of scientists and engineers around the world continue to fuel our innovation pipeline with solutions like LIQUIDARMOR CM Flashing and Sealant – bringing sustainable and high performing solutions that meet customer needs.”

Dow’s LIQUIDARMOR CM Flashing and Sealant is a time-saving alternative to flashing tape that can be either spray or brush applied and serves as both joint sealant and window flashing in Dow’s Commercial Wall Systems – increasing productivity for builders while protecting the high-performance building envelope.

Selected from hundreds of finalists, the winners were announced April 21 during the black-tie Edison Awards Gala at The Capitale in New York City, New York. The Edison Awards are the culmination of an annual, international competition designed to honor excellence in new product and service development, marketing, human-centered design and innovation.

“This award is an example of Dow’s commitment to be an innovative leader in the Construction industry and represents a win for its entire Building and Construction Portfolio,” said Jane Palmieri, business president, Dow Building & Construction. “LIQUIDARMOR is the result of tremendous collaboration by our Construction Chemicals and Building Solutions businesses, combining the right chemistry with the right channel to market, resulting in a high performance, time-saving solution for our customers.”

The Edison Awards namesake, Thomas Alva Edison (1847-1931), was an American-born inventor and businessman. Over the course of his life, Edison was awarded a staggering 1,093 U.S. patents for market-disrupting technologies such as the electric light bulb and phonograph.

Dow shares in Edison’s passion for ingenuity and patent productivity; the Company was recently named for the fifth consecutive year to the Thomson Reuters Top 100 Global Innovators list, which recognizes corporations and institutions around the world that are at the heart of innovation, as measured by a series of proprietary patent-related metrics.

Dow’s research and development engine was responsible for 667 U.S. patents granted in 2015 which is the seventh year-over-year increase and a new record for the Company.
