Dow AgroSciences, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW) is the recipient of a Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its Instinct® nitrogen stabilizer. Instinct was recognized this year for helping farmers protect their crop yields as well as the environment by keeping nitrogen in the root zone.

This marks the tenth time that Dow has received the award, and the fifth award for Dow AgroSciences. Dow’s previous winning innovations touch many markets, including environmentally-friendly insect control, synthetic pathways that reduce carbon dioxide waste, and an environmentally safe marine anti-foulant. This recognition demonstrates Dow’s commitment to its 2025 Sustainability Goals launched last year by enabling science-based solutions to the planet’s most pressing challenges – including food security and climate change.

“Sustainability is engrained into our business plan,” said Dr. Neil Hawkins, Dow’s corporate vice president and chief sustainability officer. “This prestigious award is incredible recognition for the commitment of the employees of Dow AgroSciences to deliver innovative solutions that bring value to our business, while advancing the transition to a sustainable planet and society.”

Through breakthrough innovations, such as Instinct, Dow AgroSciences is helping to advance the well-being of humanity by enabling farmers to improve yield, while addressing pressing sustainability challenges such as climate change and food security.

“Instinct is designed to make nitrogen fertilizers work more effectively for farmers and the environment,” said Tim Hassinger, business president, Dow AgroSciences. “We build sustainability into our product development process, and this national recognition speaks to our focus and commitment to advance products that address pressing challenges in an environmentally sustainable way.”

For the past 20 years, the EPA has presented 104 awards to researchers and businesses that incorporate the principles of green chemistry into chemical design, manufacture, and use. By recognizing groundbreaking scientific solutions to real-world environmental problems, the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge has significantly reduced the hazards associated with designing, manufacturing, and using chemicals.
