New DIN gas terminal unit upgrades hospital sites Award-winning design supports safety and hygiene aspects in everyday clinical routines

Lübeck - The Dräger DIN gas terminal unit is now available in a new design. It meets the requirements of modern hospitals not only with regard to design, but also with regard to hygiene, durability and safe operation. This is also emphasized by the iF Award, which the product received in February 2016.

Particularly durable material and labels, an easy-to-clean surface as well as clear and comprehensive markings are among the most important benefits of the new DIN gas terminal unit. This refers in particular to the release sleeve and its cover ring. These components are used by the nurse or doctor to connect or disconnect the plug connection between the central gas supply in the hospital and, for example, a ventilator or anesthesia machine.

"The precisely fitting shape creates a smooth transition between the cover ring and the release sleeve, making wipe disinfection easier. This is also ensured by the new laser marking, which is particularly durable and, at the same time, preserves the closed and smooth surface," says Product Manager Volker Hanke.

Safe operation, long life

For the production of the DIN release sleeves, Dräger relies on the use of well-proven highly resilient material (polyoxymethylene). The single-handed operation for right-handed and left-handed users is also among the proven product features. The new design of the external appearance with gas type

labels and either color-neutral or ISO 32 color marking ensures an even better overview and make safe operation easier for both nursing staff and doctors.

Many of the improvements introduced by Dräger such as internal and external gas coding, maintenance valves or the use of highly durable plastics have become the standard for gas terminal units worldwide. The new generation continues this development. Practical solutions regarding hygiene and ergonomics meet the challenges of daily clinical work.

Easy changeover

The backwards compatibility with the first generation of safety plug-in couplings (1975) gives hospitals a high degree of flexibility when changing to the next, visually appealing DIN release sleeves. The changeover is easy and can be carried out during the next routine maintenance. It is not necessary to interrupt the medical gas supply which assures minimal disturbance of hospital operations.

The DIN gas terminal unit is manufactured by Drägerwerk AG & Co. KGaA.
