The high street store Tiger, known for its affordable Danish designs, has gone through an aggressive growth - from 1-415 in stores in 20 years. And having established a firm foothold in the European market and in Japan, the time has now come for expansion into the US market and beyond. DSV has been chosen as Tiger's worldwide logistics partner in this new adventure.

A 500 million 5-year contract

For the next five years, DSV will be handling almost all logistics and transport for Tiger in Europe, Asia and USA. While Tiger will break ground in USA with the opening of a brand new flagship store in New York in May 2015, DSV is already there and ready with a brand new logistics facility in Edison, New Jersey.

Potentially, this new agreement is worth DKK 500 million - depending on the successful implementation of Tiger's growth strategy, at this point showing an annual global store growth rate of 50%. DSV's job is to follow Tiger and support its expansion where ever the next store may open.

Tiger will grow of its own accord, and it grows very fast, so we're not there to aid that growth. Our job is to be a competitive and agile business partner with a ready presence in markets that Tiger has yet to enter,

DSV CCO René Falch Olesen says.

Great expectations on both sides

Since Tiger already has a track record of "three new stores a week," the dedicated DSV employees and service centre in Denmark will have their work cut out for them:

If we call tomorrow and tell DSV that we want a warehouse in Singapore, we expect them to have it ready for business within 20 weeks. It has to be a plug and play solution and by repeating the processes, we will minimise the risk,

Tiger's Global Supply Chain Director Lars Syberg states.

And DSV will rise to the expectations, René Falch Olesen emphasises, while explaining one of DSV's philosophies:

You need to be careful not to simply look at where a customer is today. You have to look at the business potential - an unknown customer today may turn out to be your biggest customer in ten years,

he points out.

And this is certainly the case with Tiger - hardly unknown from the get go and with great potential to boot.
  • The Manhattan Tiger store opens 16 May 2015.
  • The adjacent 10,000 m2 DSV Edison logistics facility is already being filled with the whole range of Tiger's well-known design items.
  • The next Tiger store will open … this week.
