SUGAR LAND, TX--(Marketwired - May 3, 2016) - Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) -- As we showcase our products and meet new people at Booth #3353 at the 2016 IEEE PES Transmission & Distribution Conference & Exposition in Dallas, Industrial Info is tracking more than 4,200 active Power Transmission and Distribution (T&D) projects across the world, with a combined total investment value of $170 billion. Within the U.S., Industrial Info is tracking more than 1,100 T&D projects with a combined price tag of more than $69 billion.

"There are multiple drivers behind investment in the transmission and distribution sector of the industry," says Britt Burt, Industrial Info's vice president of research - Power Industry. "These include new transmission lines to support delivering renewable energy to the market, new systems to support heavy industrial facilities, modernization and expansion of antiquated infrastructure and the need to reroute lines from closed plants to population centers."

Several transmission line projects in North America carry values of more than $1 billion. Among these are different plans to transport wind energy from Wyoming to Nevada and Southern California. The TransWest Express Transmission Project, for example, is a planned 725-mile, 600-kilovolt overhead transmission line that will run from southern Wyoming to south of Las Vegas. The project is currently planned to kick off in late 2017/early 2018, provided it receives the necessary permitting and environmental clearance in a timely manner. The project has an estimated total investment value of $3 billion. Another such project is Duke Energy Corporation (NYSE:DUK) (Charlotte, North Carolina) and American Transmission Company LLC's (Waukesha, Wisconsin) planned Zephyr transmission line, which also will run from Wyoming to southern Nevada and carries a $3.5 billion price tag.

While larger projects such as these often steal the spotlight, thousands of other active transmission and distribution projects are being delivered throughout the world.

Industrial Info's Global Transmission & Distribution Database includes details on capital project spending, including grassroot substations and transmission systems, upgrades, modernizations, replacements, and other major capital expenditures in the T&D sector.
