Senior Healthcare Manager and two other panelists will present 'The Impact of Sustainable Construction Practices: Northside-Cherokee Towne Lake' Tuesday, Sept. 30.

(Chicago, Ill. and Indianapolis, Ind. ‒ Sept. 18, 2014) Indianapolis-based commercial real estate developer Duke Realty announced that Jeremy Fortier, PMP, CHC, LEED AP, Senior Healthcare Manager at Duke Realty, will join the prestigious speaking faculty presenting at the 27th annual Healthcare Facilities Symposium & Expo, which will be held Sept. 30 through Oct. 2 at Navy Pier in Chicago.

Mr. Fortier's session "The Impact of Sustainable Construction Practices: Northside- Cherokee Towne Lake" is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 30 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. He will speak with two other panelists:

  • Billy Hayes, CEO, Northside Hospital-Cherokee, and
  • Rowland Davidson, AIA, ADID, President, Lyman Davidson Dooley Inc.

The session will feature a case study on the building materials recycling initiatives and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design® (LEED) best practices that were used to design and develop the Northside-Cherokee Towne Lake Medical Office Building (MOB) in Woodstock, Ga. The United States Green Building Council (USGBC) recently announced that the 100,797-square-foot MOB, which opened in June 2013, has attained LEED Certification for its environmentally friendly design and operation. The facility was developed and is owned by Duke Realty.

"Northside Hospital purchased a mixed-use project near Atlanta that was a victim of the recession," explains Mr. Fortier. "Rather than demolishing the almost-new buildings, the hospital and our development team found a creative and environmentally sensitive way to redevelop the site for medical use."

"In this session, the panelists will review the process we implemented for eliminating waste, discuss the LEED Certification process and the lessons we learned and  current outcomes with the facility. In addition, each speaker will share his unique perspectives on the pros and cons of specific LEED point features. It should be a lively session and very informative, especially for development firms and healthcare executives who are considering similar projects."

The Healthcare Facilities Symposium & Expo, now in its 27th year, is where industry leaders, from design firms to healthcare facility owners, come together for three days to share best practices, explore new concepts and discover products and solutions. The mission of the Symposium is to create a multi-disciplinary environment that inspires attendees to evoke change and advance a better delivery of healthcare through the physical space. The attendees share research, hear fresh perspectives and participate in the ever-changing conversation of the healthcare industry. To learn more about the conference, visit www.hcarefacilities.com.
