FORMULATION CHEMIST

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and skilled Formulation Chemist to work within the R&D team based in Queanbeyan.

This position principally involves paste/ink/coating fluid development and associated formulation optimisation. The pastes/inks/coating fluids will mainly be prepared and developed from nano-particles, and be applied in solar cells.

The ideal candidate will have industrial research and development experience in pastes/inks/paints development; good knowledge and understanding of rheology theory and adjustment of rheological properties through changes of formulation and processing; reasonably good knowledge and understanding of chemistry and chemical/process engineering; with an emphasis on demonstrated experience and competence in hands-on skills, problem solving, process control and constant improvement.

Dyesol would particularly welcome applications from experienced candidates demonstrating a previous track record of leadership or independence in execution of similar roles.

Role and Duties

The candidate is expected to perform a range of hands-on activities/tasks including but not limited to the following specific duties:

  • Develop new pastes/inks/coating fluids for 3rd generation solar cell applications.
  • Optimise the formulation and quality of various systems currently used for solar cell R&D work.
  • Supply various pastes for the solar cell R&D work in Dyesol Australian labs including characterisation and quality control.
  • Process and analyse data, and provide qualified comments on experimental results.
  • Communicate, report and document outcomes of work including conclusions and recommendations.
  • Communicate project status with other Dyesol employees and partner teams, in particular R&D, materials development, application/product development and external parties.
  • Ensure Intellectual Property is captured.

Skills and Attributes

  • Excellent understanding of rheology theory and rheological property characterisation and control.
  • Proven track record in outcome delivery for industrial R&D projects and problem solving capability, preferably in relevant industries, e.g. paints and/or inks preparation and development, slurry and/or pastes preparation and development.
  • Demonstrated capability to proactively contribute in multi-disciplinary teams, with the ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • The ability to perform multiple tasks at a consistently high level.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High degree of manual dexterity.
  • Strong broad scientific background to understand and support the development of the investigated technology.
  • Proven track record in working with Scientific R&D groups to achieve desired manufacturing outcomes in industrial settings.
  • Understanding of the implications of working with environmentally controlled processes.

Qualifications and/or Experience

  • Appropriate applied tertiary degree in engineering and/or science, preferably ceramic, process, chemical or related engineering.
  • Ideally 5+ years of experience working within a similar role/industry.
