Forum Marks DuPont Thailand Innovation Center Anniversary

BANGKOK, Aug. 16, 2013 - Speaking at the DuPont Innovation Forum here, DuPont Senior Vice President and Chief Science & Technology Officer Douglas Muzyka underscored the importance of the role of DuPont's integrated science in solving some of the world's greatest challenges.  Muzyka's remarks were made at the DuPont Thailand Innovation Center, where business partners, academic thought leaders and government officials met to celebrate the second anniversary of the center's opening.

Since opening in August 2011, interactions at the Thailand Center have generated more than 100 new ideas and projects and welcomed over 1,500 visitors from over 300 organizations.  "DuPont's Innovation Centers create value for our customers by connecting our integrated science to local market needs," said Muzyka.  "Today's Innovation Forum celebrates the second anniversary of the opening of our center in Thailand.  It also recognizes the important progress that we have made through inclusive innovation to bring many new solutions to the marketplace."

Muzyka pointed to the collaboration between DuPont and the three local partners: L Solar 1 Co., Ltd; Smart Green Energy Co., Ltd; and Infinite Green Co., Ltd.  The collaborations on solar farm projects in Prachin Buri Province, Chaiyaphum Province and Saraburi Province, respectively, are examples of using global science to provide local solutions.

"The collaboration is a significant milestone for DuPont Thailand and lays a strong foundation to accelerate the use of solar energy in the country," said Somchai Laohverapanich, DuPont Thailand managing director.  "Our Innovation Center will work with other local partners to deliver photovoltaic rooftop solutions to serve commercial and residential buildings.  The center also has enabled collaborations which bring solutions to our customers in other areas."  In addition to solar energy, the innovation center has enabled collaborations in DuPont™ SentryGlas® laminated glass for construction, Rely+On™ Virkon® cleaners and disinfectants for livestock, Fermasure® for industrial alcohol fermentation, Nomex® fire protection suits, and Tyvek® graphics and packaging.

The solar energy collaboration is aligned with Thailand's 10-Year Alternative Energy Development Plan to drive the national economy and build up national energy security and will attain a renewable energy mix of 25 percent of overall energy consumption by 2021.  Thailand is currently consuming a large amount of imported energy such as oil and gas.  According to the Ministry of Energy, Thailand has great potential for developing solar energy to reduce the dependency on imported energy and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The DuPont Thailand Innovation Center focuses on three markets: Agriculture and Food, Automotive, and Construction. It is one of 12 DuPont innovation centers which enable the company to customize products and form partnerships and collaborations with academia, governments and other institutions around the world. The centers are part of the DuPont Global Collaboratory, which enables collaboration among our customers, partners and more than 10,000 DuPont scientists and engineers across the globe located in over 150 research laboratories and application development centers. In addition to the Thailand Innovation Center, DuPont has recently opened other Innovation Centers in Brazil, India, Mexico, Japan, Korea, Russia, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, and the United States.
