For the third year in a row, the energy company E.ON is supporting the Festival of Lights in Berlin as its main sponsor. The internationally established light-art event takes place from October 6 to 15 and is once again set to draw millions of visitors from all over the world. At the event, light artists transform the sights of Berlin into living artworks using multidimensional video technology. With E.ON's support, Berlin Cathedral at the Lustgarten park will be one of the festival's main attractions this year.

'E.ON is an innovative partner that brings its own ideas to the festival. The main aim for all of us is to increase the capital's attractiveness for its residents and visitors. Our partnership is a real stroke of luck, as E.ON is involved not only with the financing, but also very actively in the further development of the festival. Thus, people in Berlin see the greatest possible benefits from the partnership,' said Birgit Zander, director of the Festival of Lights, as she presented the program in Berlin.

'We are very proud to support a beacon of Berlin's cultural life in the Festival of Lights. It is artistically demanding, but at the same time so colorful, surprising and full of emotional highlights, that it conjures up smiles on the faces of visitors from Berlin and all over the world,' said Carsten Thomsen-Bendixen, group spokesperson for E.ON. This year's motto for the light-art competition, 'Creating tomorrow', projected large on Berlin Cathedral, is perfectly suited to E.ON. 'The projections venture a look at our lives in the future, and that's precisely what we are doing too, as we apply this same approach in working on ideas now that will improve people's lives tomorrow,' says Thomsen-Bendixen.

E.ON is supplementing the festival program with its own photography competition using the hashtag #lightsbyeon on the social network Instagram, with attractive prizes on offer for the best festival pictures. Beyond that, the company is using the substantial reach of its own channels on social media to send out videos and images of the festival to the world with even greater impact. On Facebook alone, E.ON has around half a million fans.

E.ON is the biggest shareholder in Berlin gas supplier Gasag and maintains several locations in Berlin. A new business unit based on Friedrichstraße is developing concepts to provide support for towns and cities in their implementation of ambitious climate protection goals. At the heart of this are new ideas for energy solutions in individual districts. In this regard too, E.ON sees the German capital as a beacon: 'What works in Berlin will also be interesting for many other towns and cities in Germany and Europe,' says Thomsen-Bendixen. Since 2016, E.ON has been focusing exclusively on offerings for customers, intelligent energy networks and renewable energies.
