Kodak's Paper Rating Program has presented the 5 Diamond Award to Ziegler Papier for its Z-INFINITY Satin Coated Paper. Kodak's paper testing shows that this unique satin paper, created for four-color high-performance inkjet printing, provides outstanding image quality on KODAK PROSPER Presses. The 5 Diamond rating means that users will experience color uniformity that rivals offset quality on coated papers.

Kodak's Paper Rating System

Kodak was the first to pioneer and develop a paper rating program to help printers and publishers make more informed decisions when evaluating substrates for each of their print jobs. The Paper Rating Program, based on 30 years of paper development and a database of over 7,000 paper tests, relies on the collection and analysis of quantifiable data to determine the expected image quality characteristics of printing papers. Kodak measures image quality using a wide variety of factors and then ranks that substrate using a rating system that ranges from 1 diamond to 5 diamonds.

Within the Paper Rating Program, there are five metrics for assessing paper surface capabilities that can quantify and characterize the image quality expectations for each paper type. The metrics are as follows:

  • Black Optical Density
  • Show Through
  • Line Raggedness
  • Color-to-Color Bleed
  • Mottle/Uniformity

The Kodak legacy in image and material science is the basis of its expertise in assessing the inkjet performance of paper. Kodak has active relationships with more than 40 paper mills worldwide and continuously provides technical advice in the paper development process. This collaborative approach to paper development helps print buyers identify performance attributes between papers.

With Kodak's Paper Rating Program, print buyers can learn to evaluate paper options to find the best quality at the best price. This educational advantage creates competition within the market to supply better paper.

Executive Quotes:
"Often, two papers look the same but can have very different results based on their chemistry, physical properties, and the inkjet printing technologies being used," noted Don Burns, Business Development Director for Media, Kodak. "We're using our knowledge of imaging science and surface science to support our paper suppliers' businesses. This system makes it easier to choose the best fit for the job at hand and achieve outstanding inkjet results."

"We are thrilled to receive a 5 Diamond rating from Kodak for Z-INFINITY," said Susanne Oste, Director of Sales, Ziegler Papier. "Z-INFINITY was designed for transpromotional inkjet markets, using both dye and pigment inks, and we are truly amazed at the print quality it achieves on the new PROSPER 6000 Press. It is more than competitive with liquid toner and offset prints and sets a new standard for production inkjet print quality."

About Ziegler Papier
The Ziegler Paper Mill was originally started by Josef Ziegler-Thoma in 1861. Over a period of five generations, the family established the company as a small but first-rate independent manufacturer of paper specialties. In August 2009, the company was sold to the family of Philipp and Isabel Kuttler-Frey free of all debt and with its profit situation intact. This ensures that the mill with its strong regional roots continues to be family-run.

Thanks to a spirit of innovation and the constant desire to improve and develop its products, the company has always concentrated on producing quality rather than quantity. Ziegler papers are hallmarked by their excellent standard of workmanship and first-class properties. This top level of quality and consistency makes our products highly valued by our international customers and satisfied end-users. We use the responses and requirements of these as a basis for our future product policies. This corporate philosophy has paid off and will be actively pursued by the Kuttler-Frey family.
