Eastman Kodak : Kodak showcases app to find movies projected on “reel” film

Rochester, NY and Midway, UT, Wednesday, January 18, 2017 --

Today, at the Art House Convergence conference in Utah, Kodak demonstrated the KODAK Reel Film App - a free tool for moviegoers which provides quick access to movies being projected on real film. The app features show times, images, summaries, theater locations and more. KODAK Reel Film will also provide information on movies captured on Kodak Motion Picture Film and opportunities to share updates with social media accounts.

The motion picture film community is passionate and committed to maintaining accessibility to the unique experience of watching real analog film projection. Kodak, too, is committed to this endeavor by supporting filmmakers, studios, labs, archivists, and preservationists with the film and tools they need.

The announcement today further strengthens this commitment by working with theaters to put film projection information in your hand. 'This is a wonderful resource for all those who wish to experience the distinctive look of 35mm projection, but it is also much more than that.' says Paolo Cherchi Usai, the senior curator of the Moving Image Department at the George Eastman Museum, and one of the participating venues. 'It is a statement of faith in the live cinematic event as a creative work in its own right.'

Consumer interest in film projection is on the rise as theaters embrace the analog renaissance with programming and experiences tuned to this market. Whether it's a classic or first run, film projection is a differentiator for theaters looking to set themselves apart.
