easyJet predicts record summer holiday exodus with 14 million passengers due to fly out of the UK on the airline this summer

easyJet, Europe's leading airline, will see almost 14 million passengers flying out of the UK this summer (between mid-July and the end of September). This is in part due to the strength of the pound against the Euro.

Spain dominates the most popular destinations with Malaga, Barcelona, Palma and Alicante featuring within the top five. Faro, Nice and Paphos have also proved popular as British holidaymakers search for 'guaranteed' sun.

For those who have not yet booked for summer easyJet still has over 5 million seats for sale across between 1 August and 30 September to Spain, France, Portugal, Italy and Greece. Fares available include;

London Luton to Bordeaux from £41.56*

London Gatwick to Lyon from £48.14*

London Gatwick to Marseille from £49.18*

Southend to Venice from £45.40*

London Gatwick to Nice from £48.77*

London Gatwick to Nantes from £47.22*

London Gatwick to Toulouse from £49.77*

*Fares per person, one way, based on two people travelling on the same booking.

Sophie Dekkers, UK Director for easyJet, commented:

"Our record bookings this summer show that the strong pound is having an effect on British holidaymakers who can see their pound will stretch further on holiday. With some bookies also having suspended betting on this summer being the wettest on record UK passengers aren't taking their chances.

"For those who haven't yet booked, there are still some bargains to be had for a last minute summer deal to escape the British weather."

About easyJet:

easyJet is Europe's leading airline offering a unique and winning combination of the best route network connecting Europe's primary airports, with great value fares and friendly service.

easyJet flies on more of Europe's most popular routes than any other airline. easyJet carries over 66 million passengers annually, of which more than 12 million are travelling on business. easyJet flies over 230 aircraft on more than 750 routes to over 130 airports across 31 countries. More than 300 million Europeans live within one hour's drive of an easyJet airport.

easyJet aims to be a good corporate citizen, employing people on local contracts in seven countries across Europe in full compliance with national laws and recognising their trade unions. The airline supports a number of local charities and also has a corporate partnership with UNICEF which has raised over £4.5m for the most vulnerable children since it was established in 2012.

The airline takes sustainability seriously. easyJet invests in the latest technology, operates efficiently and fills most of its seats which means that an easyJet passenger's carbon footprint is 22% less than a passenger on a traditional airline, flying the same aircraft on the same route.

Innovation is in easyJet's DNA - from our launch almost 20 years ago when we changed the way people fly to the present day where we lead the industry in digital, web, engineering and operational innovations to make travel more easy and affordable for our passengers.
