easyJet, Europe's leading airline, has announced that it expects today, Friday 4 September, to be the busiest day in its flying history

easyJet, Europe's leading airline, has announced that it expects today, Friday 4 September, to be the busiest day in its flying history with 1,544 flights carrying over 235,600 passengers taking-off across its entire network. Around 135,500 of these passengers are expected to fly in and out of the UK.

easyJet's peak flying day comes as Europe's businesses get back to work, using the airline's unrivalled network to travel between primary airports in key cities. Around 20% of easyJet's passengers are flying on business taking advantage of the convenient and frequent schedules.

The end of the school holidays and unpredictable British weather has also prompted many to seek some last-minute sunshine using easyJet's low fares. Popular destinations for the airline's passengers include sunspots such as Malaga, Barcelona, Palma, Faro, Nice, Milan, Alicante and Olbia.

Sophie Dekkers, easyJet's UK Director, said:

"We're delighted that so many passengers have chosen to get back to business or start their late summer breaks with us.

"Thanks to our passengers being able to take advantage of our wide variety of popular destinations, low fares, friendly service and business offering, easyJet is continuing to grow. Around 6.8% more passengers travelled with us this August compared to last.

"We always strive to make our passengers' journey as easy as possible. Our customers can check-in up to 30 days ahead of their flights and receive live flight updates on our flight tracker tool. Our mobile boarding passes are also proving particularly popular with more than 10% of passengers now using them in place of paper boarding passes."

About easyJet:

easyJet is Europe's leading airline offering a unique and winning combination of the best route network connecting Europe's primary airports, with great value fares and friendly service.

easyJet flies on more of Europe's most popular routes than any other airline. easyJet carries over 66 million passengers annually, of which more than 12 million are travelling on business. easyJet flies over 230 aircraft on more than 750 routes to over 130 airports across 31 countries. More than 300 million Europeans live within one hour's drive of an easyJet airport.

easyJet aims to be a good corporate citizen, employing people on local contracts in seven countries across Europe in full compliance with national laws and recognising their trade unions. The airline supports a number of local charities and also has a corporate partnership with UNICEF which has raised over £4.5m for the most vulnerable children since it was established in 2012.

The airline takes sustainability seriously. easyJet invests in the latest technology, operates efficiently and fills most of its seats which means that an easyJet passenger's carbon footprint is 22% less than a passenger on a traditional airline, flying the same aircraft on the same route.

Innovation is in easyJet's DNA - from our launch almost 20 years ago when we changed the way people fly to the present day where we lead the industry in digital, web, engineering and operational innovations to make travel more easy and affordable for our passengers.
