Shanghai- Power management company Eaton showcased its innovative Cylinder De-activation (CDA) solutions for modern auto and truck engines at the 16th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition (Auto Shanghai 2015), which help vehicle manufacturers improve fuel economy and reduce emissions.

The world's car and truck manufacturers are relying on innovative solutions such as Eaton's (CDA), which enables them to design and build efficient and responsive engines where cylinders can be enabled or de-activated on demand smoothly and in milliseconds. Eaton's CDA systems are the most direct way to reduce CO2 emissions and improve fuel economy through the driving cycle. CDA de-activates engine cylinders whenever full power is not needed, resulting in the remaining active cylinders operating at in higher efficiencies which improves fuel efficiency and reduces emissions.

"China's growing transportation and vehicle industry faces significant environmental and energy challenges, and the Chinese government has set up more stringent regulations and ambitious targets focused on lowering carbon and saving energy," said Krishnakumar Srinivasan, president, Eaton's Vehicle Group, Asia Pacific. "As a technology innovator, Eaton applauds these efforts and is uniquely positioned to provide innovative applications -- such as CDA -- for engine and vehicle manufacturers focused on meeting the growing requirements of improved fuel economy reduced and emissions."

Eaton offers CDA solutions for all types of diesel and gasoline engines. While traditional Internal Combustion engines have eight, six, or four cylinders, today's modern engines also come in a downsized 3-cylinder configuration that requires CDA solutions. Eaton's Dynamic Cylinder De-activation (D-CDA) technology allows a 3-cylinder engine to operate using two cylinders, thus becoming a smooth running 1.5-cylinder engine.

"Extensive research and testing have demonstrated that CDA is an effective thermal management technology that can reduce fuel consumption with diesel and gasoline powered engines without compromising performance," said Srinivasan.
Eaton is known throughout the world for its expertise in engine air management, and has been one of the largest producers of both engine valve and valve actuation products for more than 80 years. Its valve and valve actuation technologies have been chosen by OEMs worldwide to improve fuel economy and overall engine performance, and its portfolio includes include engine valves, variable valve actuation systems, cylinder de-activation, pump actuators, hydraulic lash adjusters, and roller rocker arms.
Eaton is a power management company with 2014 sales of $22.6 billion. Eaton provides energy-efficient solutions that help our customers effectively manage electrical, hydraulic and mechanical power more efficiently, safely and sustainably. Eaton has approximately 102,000 employees and sells products to customers in more than 175 countries.www.eaton.com.
