RASTATT, Germany … Power management company Eaton recently held a Girls' Day program at the Vehicle Group's research and development center in Rastatt, Germany. As part of an international initiative to promote science and technology to young students, Eaton employees hosted 14 female students from Germany's Baden-Württemberg region for a day of learning and hands-on activities.

"We received very positive feedback from students participating in the Girls' Day event," said Ralph Merkel, manager testing, NVH and Prototyping. "There was a special atmosphere for both the students and our employees."

During a guided tour of the Rastatt Research and Development Center, students interacted with engineers and other Eaton professionals who gave the girls a real-world perspective of their work life and demonstrated Eaton's advanced testing and development capabilities.

In the prototype shop, the girls produced metal cube paperweights that they took home as souvenirs. While they were in the acoustic chamber, students spoke their name in a microphone to generate a personal voice print, reinforcing what they have learned about acoustics in physics classes at school.

"We had a great day by Eaton, and I even had the opportunity to see the workplace of my father," said Nina Eckerle, a 13-year-old female student.

In addition to encouraging students to pursue technical careers, Girls' Day events help Eaton develop the next generation of engineers and technical specialists who will be counted on to drive the company's future success. They also reflect Eaton's commitment to recruiting and maintaining a diverse workforce and inclusive behavior that values and leverages different perspectives and backgrounds to achieve the company's business goals.

"Girls' Day - Future Prospects for Girls" is the largest career orientation program for young (10 and older) female students in Germany with participating companies, universities and other organizations holding about 10,000 events per year that draw more than 1.3 million girls. It is funded by the country's Federal Ministry for Education and Research, the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth and by the European Social Fund.
