• Eaton will help providers right-size their power infrastructure and identify low-cost energy savings opportunities at the 2018 ASHE Annual Conference
PITTSBURGH, PA
- Power management company Eaton today announced it is showcasing the strategic possibilities for power management to help medical service providers deliver higher quality patient care at the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) 2018 annual conference from July 16 through 18 at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle. At the event, Eaton will demonstrate a comprehensive portfolio of electrical solutions and services helping healthcare facilities reduce operating and maintenance costs, enhance reliability of power for always-on operation and improve patient comfort and safety.

'In an environment where the needs of patients are prioritized above all else, the right power management system is vital to delivering quality care,' said Justin Carron, global healthcare segment manager, Eaton. 'Whether it's large hospital campuses or small neighborhood providers, Eaton's breadth of electrical solutions and our depth of power system engineering expertise can help providers right-size their power infrastructure to make a tangible impact on their bottom lines and, more importantly, help deliver better patient outcomes.'

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that U.S. healthcare organizations spend approximately $6.5 billion on energy every year - about 2 percent of a hospital's operating costs. With a broad portfolio of solutions for the healthcare industry, Eaton will help educate managers of these 24/7 facilities about how they can reduce operating costs with the goal of improving patient care. At booth #2001, Eaton will demonstrate a range of electrical solutions that include:

  • Eaton's new Arc Quenching Magnum DS switchgear, industry-first technology that extinguishes arc flash more than 10 times faster than traditional approaches and substantially reduces downtime resulting from arc flash events.
  • Bypass isolation transfer switches, designed to maintain continuous power and personnel safety during routine maintenance, inspection and testing procedures, and the Transfer Switch Monitor 900 (TSM-900), allowing operators to make informed decisions and facilitate system reporting.
  • A complete portfolio of safety switch solutions, including the Double Door line isolation switch, featuring an innovative two-door design that enhances safety for maintenance personnel by allowing operators to access the fuse compartment with no exposure to line-side power.
  • An interactive demonstration of an Eaton Microgrid Energy System, combining multiple generation sources to help healthcare facilities ensure electrical energy surety independent of utility grid availability.
  • A broad range of lighting solutions including the LumaWatt Pro Connected Lighting System powered by Enlighted, a distributed network of smart light-emitting diode (LED) lighting fixtures with integrated sensing and beacon technology that captures real-time data.
  • Eaton's full portfolio of wiring devices, switches, receptacles and wall plates featuring materials designed specifically for areas where cleanliness and patient safety are a concern.
Eaton will also showcase services from one of the largest and most experienced teams of power system engineers in the industry. These experts provide services for every stage of a healthcare power system's life cycle, from design to build to support, enabling customers to tailor their systems to best serve the needs of patients.

Finally, to help medical providers identify opportunities for energy savings in their own facilities, Eaton, ASHE and ENERGY STAR® will host the 2018 Energy Treasure Hunt: The Search for Hidden Savings immediately following the ASHE conference. This 1-1/2 day event, taking place at Northwest Hospital and Medical Center in Seattle, will give participants key insights into how to pinpoint substantial energy savings can be re-invested in equipment, infrastructure and initiatives that result in better overall care.

Additional activities include:
Attendees to Eaton booth #2001 can help support the Ilse B. Almanza Scholarship Fund, which supports education and training to develop future leaders committed to optimizing the healthcare physical environment. For every visitor who signs Eaton's Signature Wall at the booth, Eaton will make a donation to the organization.

Eaton has collaborated with ASHE on a whitepaper designed to educate healthcare facility managers on how to achieve significant energy usage reduction with LED lighting. Titled 'The Use of LED Lighting in Healthcare Facilities,' the paper outlines both the mechanics of LED lighting and relevant applications for healthcare, including how providers can leverage specific lighting solutions to support healing and improve the patient experience.
