Buyers and sellers are big winners in an exciting Click and Collect deal struck between Woolworths and eBay in Australia.

The Australian first deal will see eBay customers being able to pick up their parcels at Woolworths supermarkets and BIG W department stores.

Woolworths is one of Australia's leading supermarket and retail operators with 91% of Australians living within 10 kilometres of one of their 3,000 stores, that's a huge boon for buyers.

And it's even better news for sellers.

Hamish Moline, Senior Director Merchant Development, says the response from sellers has been overwhelmingly positive and while this may look like an arrangement between two big conglomerates, it's designed to help small businesses generate more sales, by offering more convenient delivery options to buyers.

One of the pain points for small businesses is delivering online orders. Research shows one in five online shoppers down under buy online at least once a week, but 47% aren't allowed to receive parcels at work. As a result, almost a quarter have taken a day off or worked from home to receive their online shopping  and 49% have had to redirect online deliveries because they're at work.

"A convenient collection point that suits buyers gives small businesses a great opportunity to drive traffic, boost their reach, and increase sales," says Hamish.

"There were a number of partners we could have chosen", explains Hamish. "But Woolworths have invested ahead of many others in the infrastructure that you need for online retailing and have a vision about where in-store pick up across brands could go."

Earlier this week the new service was launched in Sydney and Tasmania in 93 stores and with a select group of close to 30 eBay sellers. The vision is to make the service available in 1000 Woolworths stores across the nation and facilitate Click and Collect for 12,000 eBay business sellers.
