Ecolab Inc., a global leader in hygiene and infection prevention solutions, recently shipped more than 6,600 cases of needed cleaning, sanitizing and infection prevention products to aid medical personnel caring for Ebola patients in West Africa. The nine shipments, which totaled 108 tons, have arrived in West Africa and are now being distributed to medical personnel in Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone to help prevent further spread of this virus.

“Every day, we work to help keep medical professionals and patients safe, and health care facilities clean, so we believe it is important for us to help those tragically affected by this outbreak and the medical professionals caring for them,” said Martha Goldberg Aronson, Ecolab executive vice president and president, Global Healthcare.

Ecolab’s manufacturing facilities in Joliet, Ill., Huntington, Ind., and Manchester, U.K., provided the products for the donation, which included hand soaps, hand sanitizers and disinfectant cleaners. World Emergency Relief, a non-profit organization that deploys humanitarian aid throughout the world, coordinated the shipments and on-the-ground distribution.

“We take great pride in supporting the efforts of those courageous medical workers in West Africa caring for patients suffering from Ebola,” said Kris Taylor, vice president, Community Relations at Ecolab. “It is our hope that these products will help make a difference in the control of this outbreak.”

In addition to the nine shipments that have arrived in West Africa, Ecolab is finalizing three additional shipments of cleaning, sanitizing and infection prevention products to help Ebola efforts in the region. These shipments will depart from Ecolab’s Joliet, Ill., facility in the coming weeks.

“We are grateful to Ecolab for its generous support of the Ebola relief effort,” said Kristy Scott, chief executive officer, World Emergency Relief. “Hand hygiene and sanitizing products have been in very short supply in West Africa. This donation will help greatly in the effort to contain the virus.”
