Paris, 24 June 2017: EDP Renewables (EDPR), the world's fourth largest wind energy producer, has opened its new 10 MW wind farm today in the municipalities of Ambrault and Vouillon, in the French department of Indre. The five wind turbines located at this facility will generate clean electricity equivalent to the energy consumed by over 17,000 people or, in other words, equal to the population of the commune of Ardentes.

The opening ceremony was attended by Pascale Silbermann, the Sub-Prefect for Issoudun; Jean-François Mayet, Senator for the department of Indre; Pierre Rousseau, President of the Champagne Boischaut community of communes; Etienne Aujard, Mayor of Ambrault; Yves Prevost, Mayor of Vouillon; and Patrick Simon, Deputy Country Manager, EDPR France and Belgium.
The Champagne Berrichone wind farm has five wind turbines which are 182 metres tall. The wind farm is the result of ten years of joint work with local people, politicians and representatives of the French State to maximise wind resources in the area, taking into consideration both human and environmental aspects.

This new facility is an important contribution to the energy transition taking place both at national and regional level and offers substantial budgetary advantages for the various local authorities. These five wind turbines join the eleven already in place in the municipalities of Liniez and Vatan since 2011 and brings EDPR's operational capacity in Indre to 43 MW. This constantly changing activity will generate new jobs related to the operation and upkeep of the facilities in Indre. EDPR has also drawn on the services of numerous local companies during the construction phase.

Patrick Simon, Deputy Country Manager, EDPR France, highlighted 'the immense pride that comes from participating in the energy transition taking place both in Centre-Val de Loire and throughout France, and how satisfying it is to contribute to wealth creation across the region. We start today an extensive operational period, which will strengthen our relationship with all the local players'.

Etienne Aujard, mayor of Ambrault, underlined 'the quality of the relationship with EDPR, which has been key to the success of the project. Thanks to budgetary benefits, the presence of the wind farm will allow our municipalities to participate in various projects that will benefit the local community and the quality of life in the area.'
