EDP Renováveis : Renewables presents the first Polish edition of University Challenge

Warsaw, 30 September 2016: EDP Renewables announced the winner of the first edition of the EDPR University Challenge for students from Polish universities. The awards ceremony, held in Poland, was led by João Manso Neto, CEO of EDPR, who was accompanied by Polish executives of the company. It took place in Warsaw today at the Cervantes Institute.

This initiative aims is to awaken the spirit of innovation and creativity within the academic community, which, in turn, will promote a greater proximity between universities and the business world.

The shortlisted groups presented their projects to the audience and the judging panel, which was formed by Jerzy Kalinowski, Head of Asset Management at EDPR Poland, Łukasz Zagórski, vice president of SEO, Deputy Director of EDPR Poland, Telmo Vieira, Partner at Premivalor Consulting and Andrzej Kaźmierski Director at Department of Renewable Energy, Ministry of energy.

The winning project was entitled Multi-level Large Vertical Axis Wind Turbine Concept and was entered by Xavier Camps, Marco Kuźma, Miriam Ruiz Pena, Grigory Dudnik, students from Warsaw University of Technology.

The projects awarded second and third place were The power-split algorithm of a hybrid power station, presented by Jacek Kamiński i Robert Pietracho from Poznan University of Technology, and Autonomous electric scooters station presented by Emilia Zagrajek from Warsaw University of Technology.

The winning student team was awarded 15.000 PLN, whilst second and third received 10.000 PLN and 5.000 PLN respectively.
