FORT WORTH, Texas, February 16, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --

Elbit Systems of America announced that it was awarded an Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (ID/IQ) contract to provide and field mortar fire control systems for the U.S. Army. The contract was awarded by the Army Contracting Command, Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey. If fully ordered, the maximum value of the contract is $102 million.  The contract completion date is December, 2021.

This recent contract award further reinforces Elbit Systems of America's position as a leading provider of mortar fire control systems for the U.S. Army since 2009. The company was also awarded the U.S. Army's Mortar Weapon Systems contract in the fall of 2016 for the production of 60mm, 81mm, and 120mm Mortar Weapon Systems. In addition, Elbit Systems of America is responsible for all aspects of fielding activity for 60mm, 81mm and 120mm mortar systems and the M326 Mortar Stowage Kit (MSK). These contracts support the Army's Product Manager for Guided Precision Munitions and Mortar Systems for US and foreign allied delivery requirements.

"Elbit Systems of America provides soldiers enhanced capabilities and fire power to perform combat missions," said Raanan Horowitz, president and chief executive officer of Elbit Systems of America.  "Our company is focused on providing advanced and proven capabilities that our nation's warfighters can trust to accomplish their mission and return home."

Elbit Systems of America's mortar fire control systems for the U.S. Army consist of the Mortar Fire Control Systems Mounted (MFCS-M), Mortar Fire Control Systems Dismounted (MFCS-D), and a lightweight handheld mortar ballistic computer. This improves mission success with greater accuracy while reducing potential exposure to the enemy. For example, the systems allow soldiers to position the weapon, lock target, and engage the enemy in minimal time.

"As an industry leader of fire control systems and mortar weapon systems, Elbit Systems of America is committed to providing advanced technologies that continuously improve our soldier's ability to deliver responsive and accurate indirect fires," commented Dr. Amela Wilson, Elbit Systems of America's vice president of Sensors and Fire Control Solutions.
