News This is Elecnor's first major contract in Australia, a core market in the company's current international expansion

Madrid, 16 September 2014. - Elecnor is to build a 72 MW solar PV farm in Moree in the Australian state of New South Wales. The contract is worth EUR 95 million. The owner of the project is the Moree Solar Farm Pty Ltd company, part of Fotowatio Renewables Venture (FRV). This is Elecnor's first major contract in Australia, a core market in its current international expansion.

The farm is one of the country's largest solar projects, and will comprise 232,960 panels covering 191 hectares. Forecast annual output is 155,000 MW/h, equivalent to the electricity consumption of around 15,000 homes. It will also entail savings of over 165,000 million tonnes of water compared to a coal-fired plant and prevent the emission of around 95,000 tonnes of CO2 each year. The plant is due to come on stream in the second quarter of 2015.

Experience in photovoltaic solar energy

Since first embarking in the solar PV sector a decade ago, Elecnor has developed more than 400 MW of  ground-based and roof-top solar PV installations. More than 100 of these installations are in international markets, specifically the US, France, Italy, Portugal, Argentina, Mauritania and Abu Dhabi.

Some of the most important projects in which the Group has been involved over recent years in Spain include the Las Magasconas (Trujillo, Cáceres), Hoya de los Vicentes (Jumilla, Murcia); Olmedilla (Olmedilla de Alarcón, Cuenca), Guadarranque (Cadiz), Arroyo de San Serván (San Serván, Badajoz), Lorca (Murcia) and Zuera (Zaragoza) solar farms. Major projects abroad include the 26 MW farm completed in 2013 for the Pacific Gas & Electric Company in California, and the roof-top installations for two Renault motor company factories in France, with total capacity of 21.2 MW.

Expansion in Australia

Elecnor recently established a new subsidiary in Australia, headquartered in Melbourne, that will focus on the development of business infrastructure and renewable energies in this and other countries in Oceania.

The creation of this subsidiary is a result of the international expansion strategy of Elecnor, which has chosen Australia as the base from which it will seek to expand in the Asia-Pacific region.
