Suspension of Operation of No. 1 Unit at Tachibanawan Thermal Power Station and Outlook

for Restoration

Electric Power Development Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, "J-POWER") hereby announces that operation of the
No. 1 unit of the Tachibanawan Thermal Power Station (location: Anan City, Tokushima Prefecture, output:
1,050MW) was suspended on July 9 due to a steam leak from the upper section of the steam boiler.
Results of an internal inspection of the boiler thereafter confirmed deformities in two places and a rupture in one place in the central area of the 4th stage superheater1 pipes from which the steam was leaking.
At present investigation to determine the cause of the leak and replacement of the damaged pipes as well as steam pipes in similar places are underway. The power station aims to resume normal operation of the unit in early August.
