Elekta (STO:EKTAB):

In efforts to treat more cancer patients, more effectively, Algeria's Ministry of Health, Population and Hospital Reform (MoHPHR) launched an ambitious plan in 2013 to equip or build 13 new cancer centers over the next five years. The Ministry has announced that this plan includes the purchase of a variety of hardware and software solutions from Elekta, including training at each of the centers.

Ian Alexander, Executive Vice President Region Europe, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East says: "The MoHPHR has reported the number of new cancer cases at 44,000 annually, making it the second leading cause of death in Algeria after cardiovascular illnesses. We are proud that Elekta has been chosen to help close the gap between treatment needs and treatment capacity."

Modernizing cancer care in Algeria is part of the government's fight against non-communicable diseases in accordance with the UN Millennium Development Goals. This modernization will be realized with Elekta Synergy® and Versa HD TM linear accelerators, MOSAIQ® oncology information systems, treatment planning systems using Elekta's Monaco®, as well as training for the clinicians using the hardware and software. Seven cancer centers will receive Elekta equipment.

The entire deal, which was booked during Elekta's second fiscal quarter, is valued at around SEK 250 million.
