interoperability-
RALEIGH, NC, May 29, 2012 - Elster (NYSE: ELT), a global
leader in advanced metering technology and Smart Grid
solutions, announced today its successful participation in
vendor interoperability testing for the International
Electrotechnical Commission/Common Information Model
(IEC/CIM) 61968-9 standard.
Elster's EnergyAxis® Smart Grid solution suite and EIServer®
meter data management (MDM) system were used in the UCAIug
interoperability tests, facilitated by the Electric Power
Research Institute (EPRI). The interoperability testing
affirms Elster's commitment to implement open standards that
allow Smart Grid applications to run over multiple systems.
"Elster's dedication to innovation and interoperability
standards allows us to continually provide unmatched
technology risk mitigation to our customers," said Mark
Munday, chief technology officer, Elster Group SE.
"Our participation in interoperability testing demonstrates
our commitment to providing interoperable, future-proof
solutions based on industry standards, thereby helping our
customers derive more value out from their Smart Grid
investments and reduce their project costs and timelines,"
Munday added.
As part of the tests, EnergyAxis® and EIServer® successfully
exchanged CIM-compliant messages with multiple vendors using
multiple service oriented architecture (SOA) technologies.
Data transport during the test spanned the full end to end
architecture, from enterprise level back office applications
to the endpoint Smart Meter.
Participation in these tests helped demonstrate to the
industry the value of the CIM and associated interoperability
profile standards which Elster has played an important role
helping to develop. Together, these standards provide a
platform for streamlined and scalable data exchange between
utility systems such as advanced metering infrastructure
(AMI), MDM, customer information systems (CIS) and
distribution management systems (DMS).
Elster recognizes this IEC series of standards as a
foundational international standard for the Smart Grid and
has played an important role in its advancement globally.
Having been identified by the NIST Smart Grid
Interoperability Panel (SGIP) for the United States' Smart
Grid standardization efforts, enterprise integration
standards such as CIM and Multispeak are central to Elster's
vision to provide truly interoperable system solutions for
the Smart Grid.
The test results from all vendor participants will be
released in the first half of 2012 in a general report from
the UCAIug test director.
