Generating Most Ever Single-Year Funds for World's Largest Event to Fight the Disease BRENTWOOD, Tenn., Nov. 17, 2014 - For the first time in the 25-year history of the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®, a participating team has raised $1 million in a single calendar year.  The feat was accomplished by associates who work for Brookdale, which reflects their dedication to serving a leading role in contending with the Alzheimer's epidemic. The Walk to End Alzheimer's® is the world's largest event to generate awareness and funds for Alzheimer's care, support and research. Brookdale, America's largest senior living provider, is also the nation's largest dementia-care organization, offering specialized care in more than 550 communities nationwide.

In reaching the $1 million mark, Brookdale more than doubled its fundraising goal. Since 2008, Brookdale has raised more than $4.3 million and is a Platinum National Team.

"This is a great accomplishment and a powerful statement about the continued leadership of Brookdale in the fight to end Alzheimer's," said Harry Johns, president and chief executive officer, Alzheimer's Association. "As the first member of our National Team program in 2008, Brookdale has led the way for companies to stand up and fight for this cause. Thank you to the Brookdale team for their commitment to our shared vision of a world without Alzheimer's."

More than five million people in the United States have Alzheimer's or another form of dementia; that figure is expected to rise above eight million by 2030.

"I'm so proud of our associates for accomplishing this phenomenal goal. It has truly been a team effort," said Andy Smith, chief executive officer of Brookdale. "It shows how passionate our associates are to further the Alzheimer's Association's fight to end this disease and at the same time, provide excellent care and support to those living with Alzheimer's or dementia and their families every day in our communities."
