BRENTWOOD, Tenn., July 14, 2015 - As the federal government launches its new star rating for Medicare-certified home care providers, many of Brookdale's home health agencies are ranked in the top echelons. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, known as CMS, is compiling the rankings based on the quality of outcomes and processes. There are over 10,500 Medicare-certified home health agencies nationwide.

Many of Brookdale's agencies, which operate under the names Brookdale Home Health and Nurse on Call, are rated four stars or above. Twelve have earned five stars, which is the top measure. The ratings look at the agencies' success in such areas as improving patients' ability to walk, bathe and get in and out of bed, how they address pain and whether they reduce the need for hospitalizations. While CMS had already offered this data on its Home Health Compare website on Medicare.gov, it is adding the star ratings this year to help consumers more easily understand what the information means..

"We're proud of our strong showing in the new star rating system and applaud our associates, whose hard work and dedication to our patients," said Shad Morgheim, division president of Brookdale Healthcare Services. "We commend CMS for providing this important data to the public, so families have the information they need to make the right choices."

CMS plans to post the home health star ratings on its website in mid-July and updated quarterly thereafter.
