As the oil and gas recovery gains traction, automation suppliers are betting that an increased emphasis on efficiency will drive a new wave of demand for digital software, services, and components.

An article in the Houston Chronicle reports that as oil prices rebound, producers are investing more in wireless technology and other automation solutions to make permanent the operating efficiencies won during the recent market lull. As an example of how this trend is taking shape, engineers at OXEA, one of the companies featured, describe how they've begun to 'buy into a digital future' by teaming with Emerson to install wireless storage tank sensors at OXEA's Gulf Coast facility-a solution that's quickly paying for itself due to the wiring costs, manpower, and installation time it's saved.
