EMIS Group and CSC (NYSE: CSC) have announced the commencement of the implementation of the Defence eHealth Information System in Australia.

The new system - based on EMIS Primary Care's PCS Enterprise clinical software - will deliver a combined medical and dental health record for members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

For the first time, health professionals throughout the ADF's Joint Health Command will have access to aggregated health information at the point of care and at all levels of management throughout the Command.

The system supports the delivery of primary health care to the ADF, providing each member with a comprehensive eHealth record from enlistment through to retirement as well as health management information focused on improving health care outcomes, and contributing to overall force readiness.

The project is the result of collaboration between CSC, EMIS Primary Care, Kellogg Brown and Root Pty Ltd (KBR) and Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC).  Solution development began in January 2011; an Australia-wide rollout began in April 2014. Since the initial rollout in Queensland, the system has already begun to contribute to improved clinical outcomes for ADF members and overall efficiency of primary care delivery.

Rear Admiral Robyn Walker, AM, Commander Joint Health Command and Surgeon General of the Australian Defence Force said, "This represents a significant milestone in our ability improve the health outcomes for all members of the ADF."

EMIS Group Chief Executive Chris Spencer said: "This is a major implementation that further extends EMIS Group's already significant international reach, and underlines our credentials as a world-class provider of e-health systems.

"Our partnership with CSC has been a close and active one, including the deployment of a dedicated team to support the software development and implementation in Australia."

Seelan Nayagam, managing director, CSC Australia, said: "CSC in partnership with the Department of Defence is successfully delivering one of the most complex business transformation programmes undertaken by the ADF."
