EMIS Group's Ascribe has been named a finalist in Microsoft's prestigious 2014 Partner of the Year Award - with a business intelligence tool that was launched just this month.

Ascribe saw off competition from over 3,000 other global entrants to reach the final pick in the Business Intelligence Partner of the Year category. Ascribe Online Analytics, delivered via Microsoft Office 365, will enable healthcare organisations to gain new insight into their data to improve clinical performance. The tool pseudonymises real-time data at source, and then pulls it into a Cloud data warehouse for analysis and benchmarking.

It was created in conjunction with North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Trust, where pharmacists are exploring the use of Online Analytics to examine prescribing patterns and treatment efficacy.

Professor Philip Dean, Head of the Trust's Department of Pharmacy said the tool could allow clinicians to ""understand how which antibiotics are used and where, at various times. We could understand with geo mapping how socio-economic status affects the health of, and medicines used by, our population. There's virtually nothing about medicines use we can't understand better with this technology."

"We are absolutely delighted to have reached the shortlist in this award," said Paul Henderson, Head of Analytics for EMIS Group. "It's a tremendous achievement for what Microsoft itself described as 'exceptional' work by the team, and we believe it is a tribute to our innovation in healthcare analytics on a global scale."

Phil Sorgen, corporate vice president, Worldwide Partner Group, Microsoft said that award finalists represented "the best technology professionals our partner ecosystem has to offer."

Ascribe is already a Microsoft Gold Partner and was awarded Health Partner of the Year in 2012.
