EMIS - the UK's market leading provider of
software to GPs - has issued the following statement in
response to the news that CSC is to withdraw from the GP
systems market by 2013/14.
Sean Riddell, Chief Executive of EMIS Group, said:
"EMIS is a firm believer in competition, which drives
innovation and ensures best value for the NHS and choice
for customers. The loss of a well-used GP system will
be unwelcome news for those affected.
"We will be working closely with NHS bodies in
England and Wales, ISUG (the CSC Software User Group) and
with individual practices to play our part in helping
customers affected move to the right system for their
needs.
"EMIS will ensure a smooth transition for
users. Thanks to a major investment in people and
systems, we will help practices migrate to our next
generation system, EMIS Web, smoothly and quickly. We
are now upgrading around 200 practices a month through a
seamless process.
Commenting on CSC's decision, he said: "The GP
systems market is a fast-moving and demanding one;
customers want to see continual innovation to help them
meet the challenges of the dynamic NHS. That requires
scale and the ability to invest in innovative products,
services and people.
"For example, in the last 12 months EMIS Group has
recruited almost 300 new staff to support the constant
development and accelerated roll-out of our EMIS Web
healthcare ecosystem. Our latest innovation -
delivering mobile patient records access for clinicians -
was driven by user demand and required a substantial
investment in research and development."
