THE EMPIRE DISTRICT ELECTRIC COMPANY ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT OF AMY BASS


JOPLIN, MO - May 22, 2015 - Ms. Amy Bass, Director of Corporate Communications, will retire from The Empire District Electric Company on May 31, 2015, following 34 years of service.
Ms. Bass joined the Company on August 20, 1979 as a Customer Service Consultant. In November
1982, she moved to Public Information, was promoted to Director of Public information in 1990 and became Director of Corporate Communications in 1995. During a 20-month separation in service, Ms. Bass was employed by Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School as Manager of School Relations. She rejoined Empire on April 16, 2001 as Director of Corporate Communications, the position she holds at retirement.

Prior to her employment at Empire, Ms. Bass worked as a Consumer Consultant with Kansas Gas and Electric Company in Fort Scott, Kansas.
She is a graduate of Fort Scott (Kansas) High School and received a Bachelor of Science in
Education from Pittsburg State University.
Ms. Bass has served on the Communications Committees for the Missouri Energy Development Association, the Missouri Energy Warning Council and the Southwest Power Pool. She currently serves on the Board of Directors at the Independent Living Center. She previously served the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce as a member of the Board of Directors, as Vice Chairman of Member Services, and as a member of the Expo, Golden Apple, Membership and Tomorrow's Leaders Today committees. She served on the Housing Committee of the Citizen's Advisory Recovery Team following the May 2011 tornado. She is a past member of the Empire/Jefferson Elementary School business and education partnership committee. Ms. Bass is a member and past Elder at the First Presbyterian Church of Joplin.
She and her husband, John, have three grown children, Nick Perry of New York City, Owen Bass and wife, Kristin, of Columbia, Illinois, and Laura Bass of Chicago. They have three grandchildren.
