Senate Panel Seeks Info From J&J, Endo, Others Over Concern On Painkiller Marketing -Reuters

The Senate Finance Committee is looking into possible links between three drug companies and nonprofit medical groups, citing concerns about the groups' advocacy of painkillers, Reuters reported Wednesday.
The panel sent letters to Johnson & Johnson (JNJ), Endo Pharmaceuticals Holdings Inc. (>> Endo Pharmaceuticals Holdings Inc) and Purdue Pharma LP and seven medical groups seeking documents about their financial connections, Reuters reported.
Sen. Max Baucus (D., Mont.), the committee's chairman, said in a statement that "painkillers have an important role in health care when prescribed and used properly, but pushing misinformation on consumers to boost profits is not only wrong, it's dangerous," Reuters reported.
Reuters said officials at the three drug companies weren't immediately available for comment.
