The Colonial Theatre will wrap its annual Student Matinee Series (SMS) this week with 'Her Majesty's Secret Circus Show,' a hilarious physical comedy that encourages students to 'say yes to the challenges in life.' The matinee series is an important resource for local educators, bringing quality performing arts experiences to school children from more than 120 schools in New Hampshire each year. With a $2,000 contribution from Eversource to the SMS Scholarship Fund, The Colonial Theatre was able to expand the program's reach to even more students.

'If you could bottle the excitement the students bring to the theatre for these performances, you could power the Monadnock Region for a day,' said Eric V. Weisenberger, director of development for the Colonial Theatre. 'We want to bring in as many students to enjoy these performances as we can. Thanks to the support of our many community partners, like Eversource, thousands of students were able to experience The Colonial Theatre for a variety of fun shows this year.'

The Student Matinee Series provides scholarships to schools with high numbers of students participating in Free and Reduced Lunch with the cost of transportation to the theatre and ticket costs. Students enjoy high quality performances that complement school curriculum and illustrate the dynamic relationship between the performing arts and literature, history, science and world cultures.

'For many of the students, this is a first opportunity to visit the theatre and enjoy an introduction to the performing arts,' Weisenberger said. 'I think seeing the space helps to nurture their interest in the arts, as well as a sense of community.'
