New LEDs provide enhanced look and cost savings

MANCHESTER, N.H. (March 27, 2017) - The region's largest indoor sports complex is realizing significant energy savings after upgrading the facility's interior lighting to energy-efficient LEDs. In addition to reducing the facility's annual electricity costs by approximately $16,000, the new LEDs provide a cleaner, more natural light.

'The new lighting looks fantastic, and we have already seen our monthly electricity costs for lighting decrease by $550,' said Dennis Reed, long-time Owner of SportsZone in Derry. 'Many of the parents who bring their children to play on our courts and fields participated in athletics here when they were young teens. We take pride in maintaining a clean environment, and the new lighting enhances that.'

[Attachment] The recent project to upgrade 185 interior light fixtures throughout the sports complex complements a similar project completed in 2015 to upgrade all exterior lighting to LEDs, which has enhanced the safety of the facility at night and saves 25,000 kilowatt hours of electrical energy per year. Reed purchased the new interior LEDs from Coastal LED of Rye and completed the installation himself to save on labor costs. SportsZone also received a $14,075 incentive from Eversource to complete the project.

'The incentive from Eversource was an important part of our decision to move forward with these additional lighting upgrades,' said Reed. 'We have had a lot of positive comments from customers on our new look and are thrilled with the initial cost savings we have already achieved.'

In addition to saving on electricity costs for lighting, SportsZone will enjoy cost savings on maintenance as the LEDs will last up to 10 times longer than the fluorescent lights they replaced. And because LEDs emit less heat than fluorescent lights, SportsZone will likely see some savings on cooling costs.

'SportsZone is a great partner in our efforts to reduce customers' energy use through energy efficiency,' said New Hampshire Energy Efficiency Consultant Mark Toussaint for Eversource. 'It's nice to see a local business taking such significant strides to reduce its impact on the environment and to achieve cost savings that can be used for future improvements and investments in the community.'
