The foundation is funded by shareholders of Entergy Corporation and supports strategic investments in education, environmental programs and poverty solutions in communities served by Entergy.

Area nonprofit organizations received $116,500 in funding in the first of two award cycles offered annually by the foundation. Applications for the next cycle of the grant program should be submitted by August 1.

First cycle recipients include: Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund in Springdale, Boys and Girls Clubs of Phillips County, Environmental and Spatial Tech Inc. in Little Rock, Mid-America Science Museum in Hot Springs, South Arkansas Community College Foundation in El Dorado, Faulkner County Council on Aging in Conway and the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance.

"We work hard to give back to the communities in which we live and work," said Tom Kennedy, Entergy Arkansas' vice president of public affairs. "Contributing to a society that is healthy, educated and environmentally safe and productive helps create stronger communities, allowing our customers, employees, owners and communities to thrive."

The Entergy Charitable Foundation, a private, nonprofit organization, provides one of several grant programs Entergy offers to communities served. In 2013 Entergy, the Entergy Charitable Foundation and its subsidiaries awarded grants totaling more than $15 million in charitable donations to nonprofits in communities served by Entergy.
