Entergy Awards $1.76 Million in Grants to Support Local Community Projects

Beaumont, Texas - More than 33 local nonprofit organizations will help improve the quality of life in Southeast Texas thanks to recent grant awards from the Entergy Charitable Foundation. The foundation is funded by shareholders of Entergy Corporation and supports strategic investments in education, environmental programs and poverty solutions in communities served by Entergy.

Area nonprofit organizations received $134,300 in funding in the first of two award cycles offered annually by the foundation. Applications for the next cycle of the grant program should be submitted by August 1.

"We strive to contribute to a society that is healthy, educated, environmentally safe and productive, allowing all stakeholders - our owners, customers, employees and communities - to thrive," said Vernon Pierce, vice president, customer service, Entergy Texas, Inc. "Company owners see stronger revenues from communities with healthy economic and industrial growth. Stronger communities also support quality of life for Entergy customers and employees living and working in the region."

First cycle recipients include: Raise Texas, Austin; Anayat House, Inc.; Art Museum of Southeast Texas; Beaumont Art League; Buckner Children & Family Services; CASA of Southeast Texas, Inc.; Edison Plaza Museum; Habitat for Humanity of Jefferson County, Inc.; Inspire, Encourage, Achieve; JA Worldwide; Jefferson County Precinct #4; Jehovah Jireh Village Community Development Center, Inc.; Julie Rogers Gift of Life; Junior League of Beaumont; Lamar University; Southeast Texas Nonprofit Development Center; and the Tender Loving Care Center for Children, all in Beaumont.

Assistance League of Lake Conroe; Education for Tomorrow Alliance; and the Montgomery County Emergency Assistance; all of Conroe; Including Kids, Inc. Humble; Huntsville Education Foundation and the UM Army, both of Huntsville; Navasota ISD Education Foundation, Navasota.

Les Enfants Centre, Inc., New Beginnings Ministry, Inc.; Port Arthur Higher Education; and the Samaritan Counseling Center of Southeast Texas, all of Port Arthur; Piney Woods Elementary, Splendora; The Woodlands Center for the Performing Arts, the Woodlands; Community Partners of Montgomery County and Division of God, both of Willis.

The Entergy Charitable Foundation, a private, nonprofit organization, provides one of several grant programs Entergy offers to communities served. In 2013 Entergy, the Entergy Charitable Foundation and its subsidiaries awarded grants totaling more than $15 million in charitable donations to nonprofits in communities served by Entergy. Entergy employees also logged more than 100,000 hours of volunteer service.
