Buchanan - In response to today's announcement by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency of the Clean Power Plan Proposed Rule and Administrator Gina McCarthy's comments acknowledging the efforts already underway by Entergy Corporation to include climate considerations into its business plan, Entergy-Indian Point Energy Center issued the following statement:

"We appreciate Administrator McCarthy's statement that Entergy is a company that already takes climate and carbon risk into its business planning processes. In 2000, Entergy was the first U.S. utility to place a voluntary cap on its carbon emissions - a cap that currently stands at 20% below 2000 emission levels. We believe that Entergy's nuclear facilities in New York, including the Indian Point Energy Center, will be essential components of the State's plan for compliance with this rule, as those facilities provide around-the-clock, base load power with virtually zero carbon emissions. Entergy is reviewing the EPA's extensive proposal and looks forward to a continuing dialogue with stakeholders about its details."

Indian Point Energy Center, in Buchanan, N.Y., is home to two operating nuclear power plants, unit 2 and unit 3, which generate approximately 2000 megawatts of electricity for homes, business and public facilities in New York City and Westchester County. Entergy Corporation is an integrated energy company engaged primarily in electric power production and retail distribution operations. Entergy owns and operates power plants with approximately 30,000 megawatts of electric generating capacity, including more than 10,000 megawatts of nuclear power, making it one of the nation's leading nuclear generators. Entergy delivers electricity to 2.8 million utility customers in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. Entergy has annual revenues of more than $11 billion and approximately 14,000 employees.
