Entergy Reminds Customers Security Lighting Can Make a Difference

NEW ORLEANS, La. - For many in the New Orleans metro area, Tuesday's recognition of National Night Out is a chance to prove the strength and resiliency of their neighborhoods and to shine a light on crime- and drug- prevention efforts.

For the remaining days of the year, Entergy Louisiana, LLC and Entergy New Orleans, Inc. remind customers that security lighting can be an economical and effective crime-prevention tool. According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, effective security lighting is the single most significant crime deterrent. It enhances natural surveillance, delineates private and public spaces, can help direct access and increase security and safety.

"The idea behind National Night Out is to create awareness of ways people can prevent crime," said Pat Waters, vice president of Entergy's lighting business. "Properly lighting your home or business takes the cover of darkness away from lawbreakers and is an important step in crime-prevention efforts."

By filling out a short form available online at entergy.com, customers can let Entergy Louisiana or Entergy New Orleans know they are interested in having a security light installed at their home or business. Within two business days, they will be contacted and a lighting expert will assist them in determining what best suits their needs. The process can also be initiated by calling 1-866-603-0192.

Open-bottom and directional security lights are available in a variety of sizes for home and business use. Customers are charged a set monthly fee for the lights, with the cost added to existing bills. The charges vary depending on the light's wattage. If a pole must be installed to set up the lighting, an additional one-time fee is charged. Customers also have the option of placing this charge on their monthly bill.

There is no fee for regular maintenance, which includes bulb replacement. If the light and pole are destroyed in a storm event - such as a hurricane or tornado - they will be replaced free-of-charge to customers.

Entergy Louisiana, LLC and Entergy Gulf States Louisiana, L.L.C. serve more than one million customers across Louisiana. With operations in southern, central and northeastern Louisiana, the companies are part of Entergy Corporation's electric system serving 2.8 million customers in Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi and Texas.
