ENVITEC BIOGAS AG Green energy by utilising EnviTec Biogas technology in Oxfordshire
Lohne, 10 July 2014 - The biogas market in Great Britain is booming: The British government is promoting the expansion of regenerative energy sources with a Feed In Tariff for renewable electricity - "FIT" and a Renewable Heat Incentive - "RHI" for 'green gas' / biomethane injection into the gas grid. The Lower Saxony-based EnviTec Biogas AG is profiting from the demand, and is currently implementing a total of five projects for British clients.
The starting pistol for the construction of a 300-cubic metre/hour EnviTec biomethane plant with an additional upstream 360-kW CHP unit, was recently fired by David Bermingham and Guy Hildred near Ipsden, Oxfordshire, South-East England. If everything goes according to plan, their Icknield Gas Ltd. should be able to feed green energy into the existing grid of Scotia Gas Networks at the end of the year.
In the future, the biogas plant is expected to be operated using a combination of maize silage, pig slurry, grain and whole-crop silage. "That would enable us to utilise about 10,000 tonnes of pig slurry every year, which in turn would make it possible for us to actively support our government's climate targets", says David Bermingham, developer of the construction project. Britain's goal is to create a situation in which a total of 15 percent of its energy would come from renewable energies such as biogas. "With the integrated EnviThan biogas upgrading plant, Icknield Gas Ltd will be able to deliver an annual energy value of about 35 million kilowatt-hours of biomethane", says Roel Slotman, EnviTec's chief commercial officer.
Together with Scotia Gas Networks, the initiators of the construction project aim to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and gas imported from overseas, and set a positive example in terms of a sustainable approach towards resources. A British home consumes an average of about 16,500 kWh of gas per annum. "Consequently, our plant enables us to deliver enough gas for about 2,150 homes", says Mr. Bermingham. Furthermore, the subsequent use of the fermentation residue as fertiliser will lead to a reduction in the use of chemical fertilisers in the neighbouring agricultural area.
EnviTec Biogas UK takes charge of the construction of the biogas and biogas upgrading plants providing a turnkey delivery of the complete project. With a total of five employees, the biogas all-rounder, EnviTec Biogas UK is located in Rugeley, Staffordshire. From here, the biogas plant building company offers consulting and sales, and as well, the Service and Maintenance of biogas plants is provided by EnviTec Biogas Service UK Ltd.
