EnviTec Biogas to be represented at the IE Expo China in Shanghai

Making contacts in the Middle Kingdom

Lohne, 14 May 2014 - Biogas technology "made in Germany" in Shanghai: For the second time already, the company from Lower Saxony is taking part in the IE Expo China. With 17 other exhibitors from Germany, the biogas all-rounder will be presenting its international expertise in plant construction and technology at the joint German stand from 20 to 22 May.  Asia's largest environmental trade fair recruits exhibitors with its high attendance figures and an unbroken interest in environmental technology. Just last year, the Asian branch of IFAT, the world's leading trade fair for water, sewage, waste and raw materials management, attracted 834 exhibiting companies from 28 countries as well as 30,000 international visitors.

"The Chinese market for renewable energies is booming", says Roel Slotman, Chief Commercial Officer at EnviTec Biogas. "That's why the demand is especially high in the area of energy recovery from recycling." With its EnviWaste plants, EnviTec offers added value from waste. "Waste represents an extremely sustainable source of energy", attests Jürgen Tenbrink, Chief Technical Officer of EnviTec Biogas. He started working with EnviTec's in-house research and development unit as long as twelve years ago to develop technologies for biogas plants which generate high gas yields from food waste, glycerine, slaughterhouse waste and fats. Throughout Europe, EnviTec has built 30 such "waste-to-energy" plants so far, with a total output of 31.8 MW.

In addition to the construction of turn-key plants with EnviWaste technology, EnviTec Biogas will also present it efficient gas upgrading system EnviThan at the trade fair. The membrane technology is primarily distinguished by its efficiency and environmental friendliness, because it goes without using chemicals, water or other aides. Components for desulphurisation, compression, condensation, filtration and gas separation can be installed in closed containers. Thanks to the modular design, every system can be adapted to the individual performance requirements of the respective operator. "It's this very flexibility, but also the low construction costs, that were the decisive factors for the first two contracts concluded with our first Chinese customer", Slotman sums up.

After the successful go-ahead for the construction of an EnviFarm Classic biogas plant with the EnviThan gas upgrading system in Jiyuan, Henan Province, the customer has decided on a second joint project with EnviTec Biogas. China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) is investing in a biogas plant including a 700 Nm³/h gas upgrading system.  CSIC, a state-owned company with a workforce of 300,000, intends to operate the plant with kitchen waste and sludge; construction is set to begin as early as June.

"We see our presence at the IE Expo China as well as our market entry as proof of the success of our international commitment to promoting biogas technology", Roel Slotman concludes. The Chinese market in particular offers outstanding conditions for operating biogas plants on the whole. China has roughly 8 billion animals, including several pigs, chickens, ducks and cattle, with manure and slurry accumulated in the process of keeping them.
