4 MW of green energy for the island state

Lohne, 18. December 2015 - PT Trumi Energi Indonesiaku and the Lohne-based company EnviTec Biogas AG have just signed a cooperation agreement for the implementation of a biogas plant in Indonesia with a total initial power of 4 MW. The plant will contribute the first 4 MW of a planned 100 MW to the green energy transition in Indonesia. The signing of the agreement was attended by the Deputy Minister for Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia. 'For us this is the first step towards gaining a foothold in the promising Indonesian market', says Jörg Fischer, CFO of the internationally active biogas plant manufacturer.

The cooperation with PT Trumi, an Indonesian project development company, gives the biogas all-rounder the opportunity to establish itself in the Indonesian palm oil industry. Its more than 600 oil mills make Indonesia one of the most important palm oil producers in the world. Until now, wastewater and waste products from palm oil production have not been consistently used for energy recovery, and that although the government supports the creation of renewable energy with a newly introduced remuneration structure.

Significant reduction of greenhouse gases

'We have concerned ourselves intensively with market conditions in Indonesia for over a year now, and initial tests with residual materials from palm oil processing were providing us with solid information about the enormous potential of the use of palm oil waste as a raw material for the generation of clean energy and fertiliser', Jörg Fischer continues.

The first biogas plant of the new cooperation will be constructed at the PT Herfinta Palm & Plantation in northern Sumatra and Bengkulu. 'Thanks to the sustainable use of residual materials, the palm oil industry will no longer be a mere consumer, but also a producer of renewable energy. Moreover this step will contribute to a significant reduction of greenhouse gases', says Dr. Antonie de Wilde, CFO of PT Trumi. The concept shared by the two companies envisages the use of the energy potential of wastewater and by-products in order to create green energy while simultaneously reducing greenhouse gases.
