The wearable prototype is a wristband that connects, via Bluetooth or near-field communication, to a continuous glucose monitoring sensor. It alerts the user when glucose levels drop and monitors activity, sleep, and heart rate. A Sony Xperia smartphone application has been developed for the wristband and the LTE-M/Cat-M1 functionality of the chipset provides connectivity to the cloud over LTE networks.

According to Marie Hogan, Head of Broadband and Internet of Things (IoT) at Ericsson, the concept is a great example of how low-cost and power-efficient connectivity can pave the way for a range of new IoT applications for consumers and industries.

Learn more about the concept in this press release issued by Sony Mobile and Altair.
