Movistar Argentina has teamed up with Swedish vendor Ericsson to test the country’s first 5G trial network. The test, which took place in Buenos Aires, utilised 28GHz millimetre wave (mmWave) spectrum, and achieved downlink transmission speeds of up to 20Gbps, via a combination of Massive MIMO, Beamforming and Beam Tracking solutions. Ericsson notes that the trial network will allow local telecoms operators and other ecosystem partners – such as academic institutions, health professionals, utilities and agriculture firms – to test the capabilities of 5G technology using an active network.
