Company part of record workforce helping to repair energy system after Irma

BOSTON (September 15, 2017) - Working as one Eversource team, crews from Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire have restored power to more than 8,000 homes and businesses left in the dark by Hurricane Irma. More than 100 Eversource employees, including 46 from Massachusetts, have been on the job in Melbourne, FL since Wednesday, working for Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) to repair extensive damage to the energy system caused by severe winds and coastal flooding.

'We have developed a good system of communication working with FPL and we're excited to be able to assist with bringing the lights back on for customers affected by Irma,' said Eversource Incident Commander Marc Geaumont. 'The people of Florida are upbeat, giving us hugs and high-fiving our crews when their power comes back on. That's one of the best parts of the job-being able to bring comfort back to people who have weathered a significant storm.'

Eversource sent a convoy of 70 vehicles, including the company's Mobile Response Center, to assist FPL with one of the most extensive power restoration efforts in U.S. history. As a longstanding member of the industry's Mutual Aid Network that works together to restore power following devastating storms and major events, Eversource sent as many crews to Florida as possible, while retaining the resources needed to maintain the system at home. In addition to sending crews to join FPL's workforce, Eversource's call center has been providing support to Tampa Electric Company by answering their customers' outage calls. /p>

'Our team is working through extreme heat and high humidity, but we're thinking of the people of Florida who have had no air conditioning all week,' Geaumont said. 'These are pretty tough conditions, and I'm very proud of our people down here supporting this effort.'
