15-year-old Liz Crandall among those selected

BERLIN, Conn. -She was just 8 years old when she first picked up a golf club and Liz Crandall fell in love with the sport instantly. Now the 15-year-old is on the Stonington High School girl's golf team which was just created this year. Before that Liz played on the boys JV team and placed second in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Touranment. This week she was swinging the clubs with some of golf's elite players at the Travelers Championship in Cromwell. The Pawcatuck teen was one of 40 young golfers selected to participate in the Eversource PGA TOUR Player Experience for Junior Golfers at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell.

'Playing with the pros at the Travelers was awesome. I learned so much,' said Liz. 'I want to become a golf instructor for kids when I get older and inspire kids to golf just like my coaches and the pros at the TPC have done for me.'

Liz was chosen for the Player Experience based on her personal essay detailing her golf experience and how she could benefit from the opportunity to participate. In addition to playing with some of the pros, Liz and the other chosen participants attended private golf clinics, a Q-and-A session with the elite players and a dinner reception.

'This is an excellent opportunity for these young golfers; they are learning and developing lifelong skills through the game of golf from some of the pros,' said Eversource President of Corporate Citizenship Rod Powell. 'We're committed to supporting the health and well-being of the young people in our communities, which is why we are so proud to sponsor the Player Experience.'

The partnership between Eversource, the Travelers Championship and The First Tee of Connecticut focuses on bringing the game to young people, improving player development, increasing accessibility to the game, and retaining golfers for the future of the sport.

The Travelers Championship has generated more than $36 million for charity since 1952 and donates 100 percent of net proceeds to those organizations. Last year alone, the Travelers Championship generated a record $2.8 million for more than 160 charities throughout the Connecticut region.
